Zambian Football Association’s AGM Postponed Indefinitely Due to Court Order

The Zambian Football Association’s (FAZ) Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for today, April 27th, 2024, has been postponed indefinitely. This follows a court order issued against FAZ by High Court Judge Greenwell Malumani.

According to a statement released by FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala, the association had applied to discharge the injunction filed by Damiano Mutale and journalist Mabvuto Phiri, who are not members of FAZ. However, Judge Malumani declined their application.

Despite FAZ’s attempt to lift the injunction this morning, Judge Malumani has set a new date for an interparte hearing, where lawyers from both sides will present their arguments. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 2nd.

FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga urged members to remain calm and assured them of continued updates.

He acknowledged the court’s decision and stated it’s too early to determine potential consequences from FIFA, the international football governing body.

This development comes after FIFA instructed FAZ to hold the AGM as per their constitution, following an initial court order halting the meeting.

FIFA has also requested a full report from FAZ by April 30th before making a decision regarding the situation in Zambian football.
