Multiple Drag Dealers Arrested Across the Provinces
During the Easter holidays, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) led by Director General Mr. Nason Banda intensified its efforts to maintain peace and order in communities, resulting in significant successes.
In Chinsali district, Muchinga province, over 2 tons of cannabis were seized, and a civil servant suspected of drug distribution, Douglas Joseph Mpange, was apprehended. Mpange, 31 years old and employed at a public institution, was caught with 61 sachets of high-grade cannabis.
In another operation on the Copperbelt Province, DEC officers from various districts arrested three individuals for the unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 1.25 tonnes in Mpongwe District. The suspects were identified as Irene Namonde, Mike Hamanze, and Beauty Banda, all residents of Mimbolo village in Mpongwe district.
Further operations in North-Western Province led to the arrest of Konde Kayanda, aged 65, for the unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 535 kilograms in Solwezi.
In Luapula Province, two individuals, including a 14-year-old juvenile from Nchelenge district, and Cyrus Mulenga, aged 21 from Chembe district, were arrested for illegal drug offences. The juvenile was caught trafficking dry loose cannabis, while Mulenga was found with Diazepam tablets and dry loose cannabis.
In Southern Province, DEC officers intercepted a taxi along the Mazabuka-Lusaka Road containing 92 sachets of high-grade cannabis. The driver, Grey Muimui, aged 30, was arrested, with investigations revealing the drugs were destined for Mazabuka district from Chibolya compound in Lusaka.
All suspects have been charged and await court appearances. The DEC emphasizes its commitment to public safety, warning against engaging in criminal activities and promising to seize assets associated with illicit operations.
