ZAMMSA Distributes Over 2 Million Mosquito Nets Across Zambia to Combat Malaria
The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has successfully distributed over two million free Mosquito Nets across strategic regions, including Lusaka, Copperbelt, Central, and Southern Provinces, within the last month to combat the pervasive threat of Malaria in the nation.
Bradley Chingobe, the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at ZAMMSA, emphasized the urgency of addressing the high incidence of Malaria and highlighted the severe impact it has on the general population.
To counter this, the agency initiated the mass distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticides Treated Mosquito Nets, with a target of distributing a total of 5.3 million nets by January 25th, 2024.
“Malaria is a major public health challenge in our country and remains endemic across all ten provinces,” stated Mr. Chingobe.
He underscored the severity of the issue, emphasizing that Malaria continues to be a significant cause of illness and death in Zambia, affecting both children and adults daily.
ZAMMSA’s distribution model is designed to ensure widespread coverage by delivering millions of nets to various health facilities throughout the targeted provinces.
Mr. Chingobe said that the agency is committed to reaching even the most remote and challenging-to-access health facilities to maximize the impact of their efforts.
In a race against time, ZAMMSA’s dedicated distribution teams are working tirelessly to guarantee the timely delivery of these essential supplies in the coming weeks. Notably, these mosquito nets are being provided at no cost, thanks to the generous support of the Ministry of Health.
Mr. Chingobe reiterates the organization’s unwavering commitment to providing the nation with cost-effective and quality medicines and medical supplies. This initiative reflects a collaborative effort between various stakeholders, showcasing the determination to combat Malaria and improve public health outcomes in Zambia.
As the distribution continues, he said ZAMMSA remains optimistic that the concerted effort will significantly contribute to reducing the burden of Malaria and improving the overall well-being of the population.
