Women Diplomats in London Call for Stronger Unity and Resilience in a Complex Global Landscape
Female diplomats have been encouraged to deepen collaboration and resilience as they navigate an increasingly complex global environment.
This call was made during the Women in Diplomacy Network London spring luncheon held on Monday at the Dorchester Hotel, where Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Macenje Mazoka, addressed fellow Heads of Mission and Deputy Heads.
H.E. Mazoka, who serves as President of the Network, acknowledged the demanding nature of diplomatic work, noting that women in diplomacy continue to create space for dialogue, cooperation and understanding, even where progress may be gradual.
“Each of you here represents not only your country, but also the ongoing evolution of leadership within your nations,” she said. “You occupy roles that require not only technical expertise and strategic thinking, but also emotional intelligence, resilience and adaptability.”
She added that while such qualities are often understated, they are reflected in how diplomats lead their missions, manage teams and engage within the international community.
H.E. Mazoka further urged members to use the season as an opportunity to renew connections, reinforce shared purpose and remain grounded in the values that guide diplomatic service.
“Even in the most complex of times, there is strength in this community in shared experience, mutual support and the understanding that none of us is navigating this path alone,” she said.
The luncheon also recognised key milestones within the diplomatic community, including the appointment of Dr Iruthisam Adam, High Commissioner of the Maldives, as her country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Tributes were also paid to Network Vice-President H.E. Katerina Stavreska, Ambassador of North Macedonia, who is concluding her diplomatic tenure in London.
The Women in Diplomacy Network London continues to provide a platform for engagement, mentorship and collaboration among female diplomats serving in the United Kingdom.
