Economic Analyst Calls for Non-Partisan Judiciary in Zambia

Kelvin Chisanga, an esteemed economic analyst, has called for a non-partisan judicial system in Zambia, emphasizing the need for the judiciary to operate free from political interference.

In a recent statement, Chisanga highlighted the importance of the judiciary in maintaining justice for all citizens, regardless of political affiliations.

“Zambia, anchored by the interests of our general suffrage, requires a judicial arm that is completely non-partisan within its legal governance structures,” Chisanga stated.

He stressed that the judiciary should not dispense justice based on political influences and should ensure fairness and impartiality in all its proceedings.

Reflecting on the universal symbols of justice, Chisanga pointed out that many judicial institutions use logos depicting fairness and impartiality, reinforcing the judiciary’s role in upholding justice.

He invoked the adage “No one is above the law” to underline the necessity of rule of law and equality before the law.

Chisanga also critiqued the frequent piecemeal amendments to the Zambian constitution, citing misinterpretations and gaps that require comprehensive and inclusive revisions.

He asserted that the constitution should serve the interests of all Zambians, not just the political elite, and called for amendments that reflect the needs and priorities of the broader population.

To enhance transparency and accountability, Chisanga suggested that Zambia’s legal governance systems should embrace digitalization.

He believes that moving to digital platforms would improve the efficiency and fairness of judicial processes.
