President Hakainde Hichilema Addresses Veterinary Association Meeting in Livingstone
President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia recently attended and officiated the Veterinary Association of Zambia’s general meeting in Livingstone.
Under the theme “Veterinarians are Essential Health Workers,” the importance of veterinary practitioners in various sectors was highlighted.
President Hichilema emphasized the interconnectedness of animal and human health.
He pointed out that veterinary professionals are instrumental in research, disease diagnosis, and extension services, all of which contribute significantly to the health and welfare of both humans and animals.
Recognizing the economic potential of healthy livestock, the President stressed the need for Zambia to be proactive in tackling livestock diseases.
This proactiveness, he believes, is essential for the country to become a net exporter of animal products, thereby boosting the economy.
To support this goal, the government has pledged to prioritize the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure that directly benefits livestock.
President Hichilema further emphasized the government’s commitment to working collaboratively with veterinary professionals to achieve a shared vision.
