6,000 Runners Set for KK Day Marathon with K3.5m Sponsorship
Professional Insurance Corporation Zambia Ltd (PICZ), Stanbic Bank Zambia, and the Lusaka Fitness Squad (LFS) have joined forces under the banner Tiyende Pamodzi to host the 2026 KK Day Marathon, signalling a renewed commitment to national unity, healthier communities, and the enduring legacy of Zambia’s first President, Dr Kenneth Kaunda.
PICZ returns as the Headline Sponsor with a contribution of K2 million, reinforcing its mission to safeguard community wellbeing and preserve national legacies. Stanbic Bank Zambia comes on board as Gold Sponsor, investing K1.5 million to strengthen the event’s financial base while promoting the bank’s message of growth through unity.
LFS, the event owners and managers, bring operational expertise, national reach, and a deep connection with Zambia’s fitness community.
The 2026 edition anticipates its largest turnout yet, with 6,000 runners expected, up from 3,500 participants last year.
Speaking on PICZ’s continued involvement, Managing Director Mr Moses Siame said the marathon is “more than a sporting event, it is a living national tribute that reminds us who we are and what we must continue to build.”
He added: “Dr Kaunda stood for resilience, unity, sacrifice and service above self. As PICZ, our commitment to the KK Marathon reflects our belief that preserving what matters most to Zambians is both a corporate duty and a moral obligation.”
Stanbic Bank Zambia Chief Executive, Ms Mwindwa Siakalima, highlighted that the marathon aligns with the bank’s vision of shared progress and strong communities. “Growth takes root when people move forward together. We are committed to building a Zambia that is stronger, healthier, and full of potential,” she said.
LFS President, Mr Katai Chola, noted the club’s role in growing national participation. “Lusaka Fitness Squad is proud to host the KK Day Marathon for the fifth consecutive year. As Zambia’s largest fitness community, we remain focused on promoting healthy lifestyles and national development. With 6,000 runners expected this year, the marathon continues to unite and energise communities across the country.”
The partnership reflects a shared belief in the marathon’s power to bring Zambians together, honouring Dr Kaunda’s legacy of unity, resilience, and national pride.
