New Report Highlights AFCON 2025 as a Rising Global Sports and Commercial Force
A new report by Africa Sports Unified has revealed how the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 is emerging as a major global sporting and commercial property, signalling a turning point in the evolution of African football.
Africa Sports Unified, a Pan-African sports intelligence and strategic advisory platform, has released its AFCON 2025 Overview Report, offering a detailed analysis of how the tournament is being repositioned as a premium global sports asset.
AFCON 2025 will be hosted by Morocco and, for the first time, staged during the December to January global football window. The tournament will feature 24 national teams competing across nine modernised stadiums in six Moroccan cities.
According to the report, the competition will offer a record prize of 10 million United States dollars for the tournament winner, drawn from a total prize pool of 32 million dollars. This represents a significant increase in financial scale compared to previous editions.
The report also highlights AFCON 2025’s expanding international broadcast footprint, including free-to-air coverage in the United Kingdom through Channel 4, as well as broadcast agreements in Spain, Portugal and more than 85 global markets. The tournament will also be the first AFCON edition to be fully produced in High Dynamic Range, setting new standards for broadcast quality across all host venues.
Morocco’s preparations are also examined, with the report noting the country’s integrated approach to stadium development, transport infrastructure, fan technology and security. These investments are aligned with Morocco’s broader preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Commenting on the findings, Africa Sports Unified Founder Gabriel Ajala said AFCON 2025 represents a fundamental shift in how African football is viewed internationally.
“This is no longer just a continental competition. AFCON has become a global media, commercial and nation-branding platform,” Ajala said, adding that the report provides decision-makers with critical insight into the tournament’s future direction and commercial opportunities.
The report further explores the impact of AFCON’s planned transition to a four-year cycle from 2028, which is expected to increase the tournament’s strategic value and commercial importance by enhancing its scarcity.
Africa Sports Unified said the report is intended to support governments, football federations, investors, broadcasters and sponsors seeking to engage more deeply with Africa’s growing sports economy.
