Gov’t Praises Sunion Investments for Exemplary Mining Compliance

The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has lauded Sunion Investments Limited for maintaining high standards of compliance with mining regulations at its copper processing facility in Kasempa, North-Western Province.

Permanent Secretary Dr Hapenga Kabeta, who led a delegation comprising officials from Cabinet Office and the Provincial Administration, conducted an inspection of the plant to assess adherence to health, safety, and environmental requirements.

The facility was found to consistently meet industry standards, with inspectors noting correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by workers and a well-managed copper thickening and storage section. The plant produces copper cathodes of up to 99.9% purity.

Dr Kabeta praised the company’s diligence and transparency in reporting production figures through official government channels, describing its practices as a model for the industry.

“We are pleased with what we have witnessed. This company ticks most of the boxes for operational and safety regulations. They have set the bar high for other processors in the district, and we encourage them to serve as a benchmark to elevate standards across the entire industry,” Dr Kabeta said.

The inspection, guided by Plant Supervisor Ms Karen Kamanga, further highlighted Sunion Investments’ commitment to worker safety and environmental management.

The Ministry emphasised that such compliance is critical to strengthening Zambia’s mining sector and ensuring responsible resource development.
