Airtel Zambia Partners with Government to Drive Digital Transformation
Airtel Zambia has entered into a landmark partnership with the Ministry of Technology and Science, marking a significant step in advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda. The event was graced by the Honourable Minister, Mr. Felix Mutati, MP, the Permanent Secretary, Eng. Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, and Airtel Zambia’s Muttal Group Chairperson, Mr. Sunil Bhatt.
Under the agreement, Airtel Zambia has pledged to construct 350 new communication towers across the country, a move expected to expand connectivity, particularly in underserved rural areas. This investment will also support Zambia’s ambitious target of achieving 80% financial inclusion within the next 12 months.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Mutati stressed the importance of digital access in education and innovation, noting that rural communities stand to benefit greatly from improved connectivity and resources.
“These investments have the power to transform our nation’s future, particularly for learners in remote areas who need access to modern tools and knowledge,” he said.
Mr. Bhatt reaffirmed Airtel’s commitment to Zambia’s development, adding that the company would support local technology start-ups and provide opportunities for Zambian innovators to receive training in India, one of the world’s leading centres for digital transformation.
Meanwhile, Eng. Dr. Habeenzu commended Airtel for its resilience in driving digital progress despite national challenges such as drought, and confirmed the Government’s readiness to collaborate on smart energy solutions to ensure reliable service delivery.
The partnership is expected to generate jobs, enhance e-commerce participation, and improve access to government services, while also tackling key barriers such as mobile money float shortages.
This public-private collaboration highlights a shared vision to bridge the digital divide, stimulate innovation, and empower Zambians through improved access to technology. It positions the country as a regional leader in digital transformation and inclusive socio-economic growth.
