Health Minister Applauds Rotary International’s Role in Strengthening Zambia’s Health Sector
Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Elijah Muchima, has commended Rotary International for its ongoing contributions to Zambia’s health sector, particularly through its involvement in the Malaria Elimination Programme.
Speaking during a courtesy call by Rotary International President Mr. Mario Cesar Martins De Camargo and his delegation, Dr. Muchima expressed gratitude for the organization’s unwavering commitment to supporting Zambia’s health systems.
He highlighted the positive impact of the Malaria Elimination Programme and announced that the Ministry of Health is preparing to deploy drone technology for targeted mapping of malaria-affected areas as part of broader public health security initiatives.
The Minister also praised the work of Community-Based Volunteers (CBVs), describing them as vital to public health education and community engagement.
Rotary International President Mr. Camargo reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Health.
He noted that Rotary is actively involved in seven focus areas in Zambia, including disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health, and water and sanitation.
Mr. Camargo revealed that Rotary International currently operates 30 clubs across Zambia, with each club managing at least three community projects.
He also spotlighted the Malaria-Free Zambia Project, a collaborative initiative supported by Rotary and partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
