Kagem Recognized as Zambia’s Safest Mining Company at National HSE Conference

Kagem Mining Limited (Kagem) has been awarded the title of Zambia’s safest mining company by the Zambia Chamber of Mines. The accolade was presented last week at the 8th National Conference on Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) in Livingstone.

The award, conferred by Dr. Hapenga M. Kabeta, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, recognizes Kagem’s commitment to safety excellence.

Kagem’s General Manager, Adriaan Prinsloo, and SHEQ Head of Department, Benedict Bukoka, received the award. Speaking on the achievement, Kagem’s Chairman, Dr. Sixtus Mulenga, highlighted the company’s dedication to safety, which has been fundamental to Kagem’s operations.

“This award represents the dedication, hard work, and commitment to safety by every member of the Kagem team over several years,” he stated.

The company’s proactive safety measures and recent accolades, including its Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Clarity Platform certification, underscore its role as a benchmark for sustainable and responsible mining.

Kagem was also recently honored with the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development’s Permanent Secretary’s Safety Award, marking it as a leader in safe mining practices.

Bukoka emphasized the collective effort in achieving such high standards, noting, “A safer, healthier, and happier working environment starts with each one of us adhering to and improving the safety systems in place.”

He credited the company’s close collaboration with the Mines Safety Department in developing its health and safety protocols.

Kagem’s consistent zero-injury record and commitment to continuous improvement are integral to its industry-leading safety standards. The company’s achievements align with the Vision Zero initiative, fostering a culture that prioritizes the well-being of all employees.
