Zambia, Türkiye Strengthen Economic Cooperation Following JEC Meeting

The Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Türkiye have reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating economic cooperation following the successful convening of the Second Session of the Zambia–Türkiye Joint Economic Commission (JEC) in Ankara.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, MP, called for a shift from dialogue to decisive implementation, stressing the importance of achieving concrete and measurable outcomes from bilateral engagements.

A major highlight of the session was the conclusion of negotiations on the Double Taxation Agreement, a development expected to boost investor confidence, reduce fiscal barriers and stimulate cross-border investment between the two countries.

Hon. Haimbe outlined Zambia’s industrialisation agenda and identified Türkiye as a strategic partner in key sectors, including infrastructure development, engineering and technology.

He also emphasised the need to deepen cooperation in energy, mining, agriculture, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and innovation.

Türkiye’s Minister of Labour and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, noting Türkiye’s growing trade presence across Africa.

He expressed confidence that improved legal and institutional frameworks would unlock increased investment flows and create mutually beneficial opportunities.

Both countries adopted the Agreed Minutes outlining priority areas of cooperation and pledged to ensure their timely and effective implementation.
