Davis & Shirtliff and Huawei Forge Partnership to Propel Clean Energy in Zambia
Davis & Shirtliff has partnered with Huawei Technologies to provide affordable, high-end solar and digital power solutions, marking a significant move towards advancing Zambia’s sustainable energy agenda. This strategic alliance aims to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across Zambian homes and businesses.
Davis & Shirtliff, a leading supplier of water and energy equipment in East and Southern Africa, will distribute Huawei’s solar products, including Grid Connect Inverters, Luna, and Power M backup solutions.
Leveraging Davis & Shirtliff’s robust distribution network and extensive local market knowledge, the partnership seeks to deploy Huawei’s innovative solar technology throughout Zambia.
“Access to power is critical for Zambia’s economic growth. This partnership with Huawei will enhance electrification in both urban and rural areas, connecting more industries, households, and businesses to affordable solar power,” said Jonathan Mainga, Managing Director of Davis & Shirtliff Zambia.
This partnership is timely, as Zambia faces significant power shortfalls, with the Kariba Dam power station producing only 166 MW out of its 1,080 MW capacity. The alliance will also provide comprehensive training and support to ensure high-quality installation and maintenance of the products, thereby increasing their efficiency and lifespan.
Bruce Liu, Huawei’s Digital Power Segment Manager, remarked, “Our collaboration with Davis & Shirtliff represents a harmonious union of vision and deployment of capabilities. Together, we aim to reshape the renewable energy landscape and provide cleaner, more efficient, and affordable energy for the Zambian market.”
Zambia’s overall electrification rate is 42%, with urban access at over 75% and rural access below 12%. This lack of reliable electricity restricts the country’s potential for economic growth and poverty reduction.
The partnership will support the government’s initiative to develop mini-grids in unserved areas, bolstering energy independence and cost savings in urban areas.
The partnership also targets EPC contractors needing reliable, high-quality solar products for end-to-end solar installation projects. This collaboration is poised to make a substantial impact on Zambia’s renewable energy sector, fostering sustainable development and energy security.
