Vox Telecom Tops South Africa’s Fixed-Line Internet Rankings for Fourth Consecutive Year

Vox Telecom has retained its position as the top fixed-line internet provider in South Africa for the fourth consecutive year, according to the latest report by nPerf.

The 2025–2026 nPerf fixed-line barometer highlights a rapidly evolving market, with all major operators recording improvements in download speeds and overall performance, signalling intensified competition across the sector.

Vox Telecom achieved the highest overall score of 71,144 nPoints, supported by a download speed of 76.5 Mb/s, upload speed of 65.9 Mb/s and latency of 40.0 milliseconds. The provider ranked first across all key performance indicators, including web browsing and YouTube streaming quality, while also improving its latency by approximately six per cent compared to the previous period.

Vodacom climbed to second position with a score of 50,260 nPoints, driven by a significant increase in download speed from 31.0 Mb/s to 42.8 Mb/s. The improvement marks the strongest download performance gain among operators in this edition and reflects sustained infrastructure investment over recent years.

MTN secured third place with a score of 46,907 nPoints, continuing a five-year trend of consistent performance growth. The operator recorded a download speed of 40.1 Mb/s and demonstrated strong performance in video streaming quality.

Meanwhile, Telkom ranked fourth with a score of 37,863 nPoints but delivered the most notable improvement in latency. Response times dropped by 30 per cent, from 95.98 milliseconds to 66.74 milliseconds, highlighting significant network optimisation efforts.

According to nPerf President Renaud Keradec, the findings reflect a shift towards a more competitive market environment.

“South Africa’s fixed-line market is entering a more competitive phase, with meaningful technical gains across operators suggesting that investment in infrastructure quality is intensifying, and users are the first to benefit,” he said.

The report is based on data collected from tests conducted via the nPerf website and its mobile applications on Android and iOS platforms, providing insights based on real user experience.

nPerf noted that continued investment and innovation in network infrastructure will be critical in sustaining performance improvements and meeting growing demand for reliable, high-speed internet services across South Africa.
