Water Development Minister Hon. Nzovu Inspects Highridge Water Distribution Centre in Kabwe
Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu, MP, has directed engineers from his Ministry and Water Utility Companies to conduct a technical assessment of aging water infrastructure to ensure continued functionality.
Speaking during his inspection of the Highridge Water Distribution Plant in Kabwe, Mr. Nzovu emphasized the need to rehabilitate old water infrastructure such as storage tanks, stating that refurbishment is more cost-effective than constructing new facilities.
He noted that many aging water systems across the country have been abandoned, posing challenges to water supply.
The Minister stressed that investing in rehabilitation would allow water utility companies to allocate funds to other critical projects, ultimately improving service delivery.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nzovu assured Lukanga Water Supply and Sanitation Company of the Ministry’s commitment to funding the procurement and installation of a standby water pump at Highridge.
This assurance followed concerns raised by the Acting Managing Director of Lukanga Water Supply and Sanitation Company, Ms. Nyonge Phiri, who revealed that only one pump is currently servicing Kabwe town and its surrounding areas.
Ms. Phiri highlighted that the installation of a new standby pump would significantly enhance water supply reliability in the region.
