TAAG Angola Airlines Welcomes First Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Expanding Global Reach

TAAG Angola Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s fleet modernization efforts. The new aircraft, leased from AerCap, is the first of four Dreamliners ordered by TAAG, reinforcing its commitment to expanding long-haul capabilities and enhancing passenger experience.

Arriving in Luanda ahead of Angola’s Liberation Day on February 4, the Dreamliner introduces TAAG’s new livery and represents nearly 50 years of partnership with Boeing. This fuel-efficient, widebody jet will support the airline’s strategy to replace aging aircraft, improve operational efficiency, and increase global connectivity.

“This delivery is a pivotal step in modernizing our fleet,” said Nelson Pedro Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines. “The 787-9 Dreamliner brings efficiency and versatility, enabling us to meet market demand, enhance customer experience, and expand our international network.”

TAAG currently operates a fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs, 777-200ERs, and Next-Generation 737s, connecting Angola to 12 destinations across Africa, Europe, South America, and China. With the addition of the Dreamliner, the airline plans to strengthen its European routes and explore new markets in Asia and North America.

“The 787 Dreamliner will seamlessly integrate with TAAG’s existing Boeing fleet,” said Anbessie Yitbarek, Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales for Africa. “We value our 50-year relationship with TAAG and look forward to continued collaboration.”

In line with global sustainability efforts, TAAG is partnering with Boeing to acquire CO2 emissions reductions through the book-and-claim process, supporting the use of blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at airports worldwide.

Boeing projects that Africa will require 1,170 new airplanes over the next 20 years, with Boeing aircraft currently representing nearly 70% of the continent’s commercial fleet. TAAG’s latest investment in the 787 Dreamliner underscores its vision for growth and commitment to efficient, sustainable aviation.
