Govt Urges Banks to Develop AI Policies

The Zambian government has urged the financial sector to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) policies to enhance operations and customer service. 

Speaking at the Banking and Finance Awards Gala in Livingstone, Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati emphasized AI’s role in modernizing banking and delivering better services.

He highlighted the upcoming launch of Google’s AI Center of Excellence at the University of Zambia as a regional innovation hub. 

Minister Mutati also acknowledged the banking sector’s contribution to financial inclusion, with over 65% of Zambians now engaged in financial services.

Additionally, the Bankers Association of Zambia Chairperson, Lowani Chibesakunda, expressed readiness to offer green financing solutions to combat climate change. 

Moses Shuko, President of the Zambia Institute of Banking and Financial Services, commended the awards’ role in promoting innovation.

Notably, ZANACO Managing Director, Mukwandi Chibesakunda, received the prestigious CEO of the Year award.
