President Hichilema Honors Zambia’s Heroes and Unity Day
President Hakainde Hichilema has issued a heartfelt tribute to mark Heroes and Unity Day, observed today and tomorrow. This solemn occasion honours the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives during Zambia’s struggle for independence.
In his address, President Hichilema paid homage to the nation’s founders, both known and unknown, who set aside their differences to fight against colonialism and secure Zambia’s freedom.
He extended his tribute to the gallant national football team that perished off the coast of Gabon, the armed forces serving in peacekeeping missions abroad, and the first responders, doctors, nurses, and health workers who risked their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and cholera outbreak.
The President also acknowledged the tireless efforts of farmers who, despite a devastating drought, relied on ox-drawn carts, wheelbarrows, and various other means of transportation to haul water to their fields to feed the nation.
President Hichilema expressed gratitude to the unsung heroes whose contributions, though unrecognized, have significantly impacted the nation.
“May God bless their heroism and inspire us all to emulate their courage and selflessness in our own ways. May we strive to be heroes in our own right, in our various capacities, and may God continue to bless the Republic of Zambia,” President Hichilema said.
