Smart Zambia Hands Over ICT Equipments for GWAN
The Smart Zambia Institute has delivered a substantial boost to the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) landscape by distributing essential equipment for the Government Wide Area Network (GWAN) to all ten provinces.
During the handover ceremony, Percy Chinyama, the National Coordinator of Smart Zambia, shared insights into the government’s ambitious plans to propel the ICT sector forward.
He emphasized the pivotal role of ICT network infrastructure as the bedrock of the digital era, setting the stage for forthcoming projects.
Chinyama underscored the importance of collaborative efforts and recognized the dedication of provincial heads of ICT in driving the digital agenda forward.
He highlighted key initiatives aimed at advancing digital infrastructure, with a particular focus on expanding coverage to underserved areas and ensuring secure communication channels for government operations.
Outlining the objectives of the 2024 Digital Infrastructure Enhancement Programme, Chinyama revealed plans to extend GWAN to 182 sites, thereby creating a comprehensive and interconnected network.
He also disclosed future collaborations with local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to establish high-speed connections and implement robust security measures.
