Zambia Partners with Operation HOPE to Boost Financial Literacy Nationwide
Zambia has forged a strategic partnership with Operation HOPE, a prominent American-based organization, aimed at enhancing financial literacy across its populace.
This partnership is marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two entities. Notably, Zambia becomes the first nation to join Operation HOPE’s ‘Financial Literacy for All’ initiative, reflecting a concerted effort to promote financial education both domestically and among the Zambian diaspora in the United States.
The signing ceremony, attended by dignitaries including Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms. Doreen Mwamba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Media, Mr. Thabo Kawana, and Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor, Ms. Rekha Chifuwe Mhango, underscored Zambia’s commitment to bolstering financial literacy on a national scale.
Operation HOPE’s ‘Financial Literacy for All’ initiative, championed by leaders from diverse sectors including business, sports, entertainment, and nonprofit organizations, is dedicated to embedding financial literacy in schools, workplaces, and communities.
The overarching goal is to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed financial decisions and pave the way for economic empowerment and wealth generation.
Expressing enthusiasm for the partnership, Operation HOPE Founder, Chair, and CEO, John Hope Bryant, emphasized the significance of Zambia’s involvement as the inaugural member nation in the initiative.
He highlighted the MOU as a crucial milestone in advancing the mission of empowering individuals with the tools for financial success.
In her remarks, Minister Doreen Mwamba stressed the importance of financial literacy training for Zambian youths, emphasizing its role in enabling informed decision-making for business ventures.
She outlined Zambia’s commitment to a comprehensive range of financial literacy initiatives, including workshops, courses, and the distribution of educational materials. Moreover, partnerships with schools and community organizations will be fostered to facilitate widespread access to financial education.
Echoing these sentiments, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Chola Milambo, reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring universal access to financial education.
He hailed the MOU as a significant milestone in the nation’s journey towards economic empowerment and prosperity for all its citizens.
