Lusaka Mayor Advocates for Alternative Energy to Drive Sustainable Development
Lusaka Mayor, Her Worship Ms. Chilando Chitangala, emphasized the importance of promoting alternative energy sources to achieve sustainable development.
She highlighted the necessity for civic leaders to collaborate effectively with community members in reducing reliance on electric energy.
According to a statement issued by Chola Mwamba, Lusaka City Council’s Public Relations Manager, Mayor Chitangala made these remarks during a courtesy call by Dr. Catherine Picard, Chief of Party for the USAID Alternative to Charcoal Project, and her delegation.
Mayor Chitangala pledged to champion the fight against climate change by supporting projects aimed at protecting the environment and promoting the efficient use of energy within communities.
She stressed the need for adequate sensitization to facilitate the transition from charcoal to cleaner cooking methods.
Meanwhile, Dr. Picard elaborated on the objectives of the Alternative to Charcoal Project, emphasizing its focus on reducing charcoal usage by at least 40 percent.
The project also aims to support alternative energy suppliers, enhancing their production capacity and making their products more accessible to communities.
