Senior Chief Chiwala Commends Partnership with DEC in Fight Against Social Ills
Senior Chief Chiwala of the Lamba-speaking people in Masaiti District, Copperbelt, has lauded the ongoing partnership with the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), marking a significant development in collaborative efforts to combat social ills.
He highlighted the DEC’s active role in advocating against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), drug abuse, and the illegal brewing of Kachasu, a local alcoholic beverage. Chief Chiwala identified these issues as threats to peace and stability in his chiefdom, emphasizing the importance of the DEC’s involvement.
Expressing his gratitude for the Commission’s various initiatives, Senior Chief Chiwala particularly appreciated their commitment to reaching remote areas and engaging traditional leaders in the fight against illicit drugs, substance abuse, and money laundering.
Additionally, he urged the government to bolster security along the porous border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, citing concerns about potential criminal activities.
This commendation comes in light of the recent confiscation of containers filled with Molasses from his chiefdom, the primary ingredient used in the brewing of Kachasu and other illicit substances.
Mr. Joseph Kaluzi, the DEC’s Copperbelt Regional Commander, praised the Chief’s dedication to combating social ills, aligning with DEC’s Director General Mr. Nason Banda’s Vision of continued collaboration with traditional leaders in the fight against drugs, substance abuse, and money laundering.
Mr. Kaluzi expressed gratitude for the Chief’s support and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of such collaboration in the ongoing efforts of the Commission within the chiefdom.
The acknowledgment occurred during a meeting where a DEC delegation led by Mr. Kaluzi engaged with Senior Chief Chiwala to discuss the drug situation in the district and explore collaborative efforts to achieve a drug-free chiefdom.
