Police Arrest Four Officers Implicated in Assault Case
In a quick response to a disturbing video circulating on social media, the Kalikiliki Police Post has arrested and charged four Community Crime Prevention Unit Officers (CCPU) allegedly involved in the assault of a 14-year-old male juvenile.
The incident, captured on video, sparked outrage among the public, leading to immediate action by law enforcement authorities.
The accused officers, identified as Benson Banda, Smart Phiri, Paul Sakala, and Janex Yambayamva, have been formally charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (O.A.B.H) under Section 248 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Despite being questioned during the investigation, the accused opted to exercise their right to remain silent, as stated in their Warn and Caution statements.
Meanwhile, the victim depicted in the video is facing serious charges himself, including Murder, Aggravated Robbery, and Malicious Damage to Property.
The Zambia Police Service has affirmed its commitment to conducting a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice prevails in this matter.
Rae Hamoonga, the Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized the agency’s condemnation of any form of misconduct within its ranks.
He reassured the public that such actions would be met with the full force of the law, underscoring the police force’s dedication to upholding principles of justice, accountability, and community safety.
