Zambia, Türkiye Sign Defence Cooperation Deal to Enhance Technology Transfer
Zambia and Türkiye have signed a Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and advancing technological development in Zambia’s defence sector.
The agreement, signed in Ankara on Monday, will see the two countries enter into joint ventures, with Türkiye expected to support Zambia through technology transfer and capacity building in defence production.
Zambia’s Minister of Defence, Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma, signed on behalf of the Zambian government, while Haluk Görgün, Secretary of Defence Industries, signed for Türkiye.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Mr Lufuma said Zambia is keen to expand cooperation in the defence industry through joint ventures that will facilitate skills development, knowledge exchange and industrial growth.
“Türkiye is a world leader in defence industries and this cooperation should yield benefits for both countries,” he said.
He described the agreement as a milestone in the bilateral relationship, adding that it paves the way for sustainable defence and development cooperation between the two nations.
Under the agreement, both countries have committed to deepening collaboration in defence, with a focus on long-term partnerships and industrial development.
Professor Görgün expressed appreciation for Zambia’s engagement, noting that Türkiye looks forward to constructive discussions and the effective implementation of the agreement.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe, Zambia Army Commander Geoffrey Zyeele, and Zambia’s Ambassador to Türkiye William Sikazwe, along with senior military officials from the Zambia Defence Force.
