CEC Achieves Milestone with Zambia’s First Green Bond Listing Ceremony
The Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) marked a historic moment with the listing ceremony of Zambia’s inaugural Green Bond towards fostering a green economy.
The event, held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka on January 12th, 2024, was graced by the Honourable Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Eng. Collins Nzovu, MP.
The ceremony witnessed esteemed dignitaries, including Honourable Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, Minister of Finance and National Planning, and Honourable Engineer Peter Kapala, Minister of Energy.
The presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, Ministry of Energy, and the Bank of Zambia underscored the government’s commitment to sustainable initiatives.
Saluting the achievement, Eng. Collins Nzovu expressed his pride in being part of the announcement of CEC’s Green Bond registration at the COP 28 meetings in Dubai. He emphasized the event’s significance as a pivotal milestone in Zambia’s pursuit of a greener and more sustainable future.
The dignitaries present included Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and Chairpersons from relevant ministries, showcasing the collaborative efforts of government entities. Board members of CEC, led by Chairman Mr. London Mwafulilwa, and senior management, including CEO Mr. Owen Silavwe, were also in attendance.
The presence of key figures from the Lusaka Securities Exchange, including Board Chairperson Mrs. Kayula Siame and CEO Mr. Nicholas Kabaso, highlighted the importance of capital market players in fostering green finance.
The Minister acknowledged the crucial role played by the media and extended gratitude to distinguished guests. He emphasized the event’s significance in aligning with Zambia’s green agenda and contributing to global sustainability efforts.
