AfDB Boosts Algeria’s Capacity in Financial Management and Procurement

The African Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with the Government of Algeria, has concluded a three-day fiduciary clinic aimed at strengthening the financial management and procurement skills of Project Management Units overseeing Bank-supported initiatives in the country.

Held from 5 to 7 October in Algiers, the workshop brought together over 60 senior officials from six ministries and public entities. The sessions were designed to enhance project performance, reduce compliance risks, and improve operational efficiency.

Speaking at the opening, Nawal Lammari, Management Officer at the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Relations, Ministry of Finance, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with the AfDB to improve project portfolio outcomes.

The training featured technical presentations and operational clinics led by Hadji Malick Soumaré, the Bank’s Chief Regional Procurement Coordinator, and Alain Nna Ebono, Chief Regional Financial Management Coordinator for North Africa. Participants explored key areas such as budget planning, procurement procedures, risk management, and digital tools for results-based monitoring.

AfDB Country Economist Léonce Yapo, representing Country Manager Dileita Abdoulkader, noted that strengthening the mastery of Bank procedures directly contributes to improving portfolio performance and national implementation capacity.
