JICA Strengthens Collaboration with Zambia’s Ministry of Community Development and Social Services through Volunteer Program
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Senior Representative, Keita Izumi, recently visited the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services in Zambia. The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities for further cooperation, and during the meeting, both parties expressed a shared commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
Ms. Angela Kawandami, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, welcomed Mr. Izumi and acknowledged the vital role that JICA has played in supporting the Zambian Government’s efforts to uplift vulnerable communities.
During the discussions, Ms. Kawandami highlighted the importance of providing skills to vulnerable groups, particularly focusing on youths and women.
“The provision of skills to vulnerable people is a key area that needs attention, and we are grateful for the Japanese Government’s continuous support through various programs aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable communities,” stated Ms. Kawandami.
In response, Mr. Izumi assured the Ministry of JICA’s ongoing commitment to supporting Zambia’s social development initiatives. He specifically mentioned JICA’s volunteer program as a channel through which the agency aims to contribute to enhancing the quality of service delivery.
“JICA recognizes the importance of addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, and through our volunteer program, we will consider offering skilled individuals to work alongside the Ministry. This collaboration aims to bring about positive change and contribute to the sustainable development of communities,” affirmed Mr. Izumi.
The volunteer program is expected to focus on areas identified by the Ministry, aligning with Zambia’s goals of building capacity and improving the well-being of vulnerable groups.
The collaboration reflects the strong partnership between Japan and Zambia, emphasizing the shared values of social responsibility and international cooperation.
