Zambia, Angola Strengthen Tourism Cooperation at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026
The Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Angola have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector following a high-level bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the 2026 Africa’s Travel Indaba at the International Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa.
The meeting was led by Zambia’s Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary, Mr Evans Muhanga, and Angola’s Secretary of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Dr Augusto Kalikemala.
Speaking during the engagement, Mr Muhanga conveyed warm greetings from the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Rodney M. Sikumba, MP, and reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Angola in tourism development, conservation, and regional integration.
Mr Muhanga emphasised the importance of concluding the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tourism Cooperation between the two countries, stating that the agreement would provide a structured framework for enhanced collaboration in tourism development, joint destination marketing, tourism investment promotion, exchange of tourism information, harmonisation of standards, and diversification of tourism products.
“Zambia remains committed to continued consultations towards the conclusion and signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, which we believe will significantly strengthen tourism cooperation and regional destination promotion between our two countries,” Mr Muhanga said.
The Permanent Secretary further invited Angola to participate in the Zambia Travel Expo 2026 (ZATEX 2026), scheduled to take place in Lusaka in June 2026, while commending Angola for its strong participation during previous editions of the expo.
Mr Muhanga also confirmed Zambia’s participation in BITUR 2026 in Angola, noting that increased participation in each other’s tourism expos and trade fairs would help position Southern Africa as a competitive multi-destination tourism region.
And Angola’s Secretary of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Dr Augusto Kalikemala, reaffirmed Angola’s commitment to strengthening tourism cooperation with Zambia and advancing regional integration through tourism partnerships.
Dr Kalikemala commended the cordial relations that continue to exist between Zambia and Angola and expressed optimism over ongoing engagements aimed at finalising the Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation.
“We value the strong relations that Angola shares with Zambia and remain committed to enhancing collaboration in tourism, conservation and regional promotion. Angola looks forward to continued engagements that will further strengthen tourism partnerships between our two countries,” Dr Kalikemala said.
The bilateral meeting reaffirmed the two countries’ shared commitment to sustainable tourism development, regional integration, and strengthening destination collaboration under both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, including the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA-TFCA).
