Zambia Strengthens Economic Diplomacy Along Strategic Lobito Corridor
The Zambian Ambassador to the Republic of Angola, His Excellency Rev. Dr Elias Munshya, has commenced an official working visit to the Port of Lobito in Benguela Province, where he is engaging with key stakeholders involved in the Lobito Corridor.
In a statement issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Luanda, Angola, the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Angola said the visit forms part of Zambia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation along the Lobito Corridor, a strategic regional infrastructure initiative linking Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The visit began on a people-centred and spiritual note, with Ambassador Munshya attending a Sunday service at the Assembleia de Deus Pentecostal Church in Lobito. The service, led by Rev. Fernando Ricardo Kaputo, coincided with the launch of a new church in a nearby community.
Addressing congregants, Ambassador Munshya reflected on the shared historical ties between Zambia and Angola. He recalled how the Lobito–inland railway was once taught as a symbol of promise whose potential was interrupted by years of conflict.
He noted that Angola has since overcome that difficult chapter in its history and is now working closely with Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and cooperating partners to restore road and rail networks as vital pathways for cooperation, trade and regional integration.
The Embassy reaffirmed that Zambia’s engagement along the Lobito Corridor is firmly anchored in economic diplomacy, with a strong emphasis on ensuring that infrastructure development and policy frameworks ultimately serve the interests of ordinary people and local communities.
