Musokotwane Urges Youth to Embrace Focus, Humility and Lifelong Learning

Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, MP, has called on young Zambians to cultivate focus, humility and disciplined thinking as key foundations for personal success and national development.

In a reflective message addressed to young citizens and students, Dr Musokotwane emphasised that success is not built on knowing everything, but on a willingness to learn continuously and to respect expertise.

He illustrated this by noting that even highly accomplished professionals entrust specialists with foundational tasks, recognising that no individual possesses all knowledge.

The Minister encouraged young people to remain curious and patient, particularly when engaging with complex issues such as the economy, energy and development. He cautioned against oversimplified solutions and urged reliance on credible information and official data, stressing that sustainable progress is built on facts rather than slogans.

Dr Musokotwane highlighted the importance of clear thinking, context and responsible use of one’s voice, noting that discipline in thought and speech builds credibility and prepares individuals for leadership. He added that humility strengthens intelligence and supports better decision-making in both public and private life.

He also acknowledged the progress already being made by young Zambians across sectors including the arts, technology, agriculture, mining and entrepreneurship, encouraging them to take advantage of empowerment programmes that support skills development, innovation and access to finance.

Addressing senior citizens, the Minister said nation-building requires mutual learning across generations, with experience and innovation working together.

He concluded by urging all Zambians to value learning, respect expertise and approach the future with focus and responsibility, noting that these qualities are essential for building a confident, united and prosperous Zambia.
