Minister of Education Announces Release of 2023 PSLCE and JCE Examination Results
The Honourable Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, Member of Parliament and Minister of Education, addressed the press today during a briefing at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe. The press briefing marked the official release of the 2023 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) Examination and the 2023 Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) Examination results.
In her speech, Honourable Wirima emphasized the significance of examinations as tools for assessing education system performance and the effectiveness of interventions aimed at improving teaching and learning quality in schools. She highlighted that the results of these examinations offer insights into the impact of various initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Education.
The Minister shared important announcements with the public:
- Leakage-Free Examinations: Honourable Wirima proudly announced that both the 2023 PSLCE and JCE examinations were free from any instances of leaks. This accomplishment marks the fourth leakage-free examination since the 2020 re-administered MSCE examination.
- Timely Release of Results: The Minister lauded her Ministry’s efforts in ensuring the timely release of examination results. Notably, the 2023 PSLCE and JCE results were disclosed a month before the commencement of the 2023/24 academic year. This achievement reflects the Ministry’s commitment to maximizing teaching and learning time within schools.
- Efficiency in Administration: Honourable Wirima commended the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) for administering the JCE examinations while simultaneously conducting the marking process for the PSLCE Examinations. She praised MANEB’s efficiency and timely execution of its responsibilities.
Vice Chairperson of the MANEB Board of Directors, Mrs. Lonely Magareta, also addressed the audience, expressing gratitude for the Board’s dedication to improving examination administration. The Executive Secretary for MANEB subsequently announced the PSLCE and JCE examination results, delivering them in both English and Chichewa.
In her concluding remarks, Honourable Wirima acknowledged MANEB’s advancements, such as the introduction of e-registration and online payment systems. She acknowledged the instances of examination fees embezzlement in certain regions, emphasizing that registration and payment for PSLCE, JCE, and MSCE examinations are now exclusively electronic. She sternly warned against organized cheating, pledging stringent actions against schools involved in malpractice.
Honourable Wirima extended appreciation to various stakeholders, including head teachers, teachers, and ministry officials, for their contributions to the examination process. She extended congratulations to students selected for Form 1 and those who passed the JCE examinations, urging them to commence classes on September 11, 2023.
The press briefing underscored the Ministry’s commitment to educational quality, transparency, and accountability. As the academic year approaches, the announcement of examination results is a pivotal moment for students, educators, and the nation as a whole.
