Kagem Renews ISO Standards, Adds Cyber Security Certification
Kagem Mining Limited (Kagem) has successfully renewed three of its International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certifications—ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management), ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety), and ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management)—following the completion of its routine three-year audit cycle.
ISO standards are globally recognised benchmarks that ensure quality, safety, and reliability in products and services across international markets.
The announcement was made during the 9th National Conference on Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) held in Ndola. Chairperson of the Kagem Board, Dr Sixtus Mulenga, said the renewed certifications demonstrate the mine’s commitment to operational excellence and responsible mining practices.
“This recertification reflects our pursuit of excellence in vital operational areas and the responsible ethos of our workforce. Not only does Kagem subscribe to international standards and systems of excellence, but we also work closely with local authorities and governing bodies to ensure compliance with safety requirements in Zambia’s mining sector,” he said.
In addition to the renewed certifications, Kagem has secured a brand-new accreditation: ISO 27001:2022, the globally recognised standard for Information Security Management Systems. The certification showcases the company’s commitment to protecting data and ensuring robust cyber-security measures.
Kagem’s Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality, Benedict Bukoka, underscored the significance of the achievement.
“ISO 9001 reminds us that quality is not a one-time accomplishment but a continuous improvement journey. ISO 14001 reinforces our obligation to protect the environment, while ISO 45001 reaffirms our dedication to safeguarding the health and safety of every individual on our mine site,” he said. “We are equally proud to add ISO 27001 to our list, confirming our focus on information security.”
He added that these standards guide critical aspects of Kagem’s governance and safety, and reflect the company’s prioritisation of employee well-being and responsible operations.
