AfDB Supports AI Training to Accelerate Agenda 2063 Implementation Across Africa
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has backed a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) training initiative aimed at strengthening the implementation of Africa’s continental development blueprint, Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
Through its Joint Secretariat Support Office, the Bank provided both technical and financial support for the 5th Annual Training Workshop for African Union (AU) Member States, focused on harnessing AI for monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on the Second Ten-Year Plan (2024–2033) of Agenda 2063.
The five-day workshop, held in Lusaka, Zambia, was jointly organised by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF). It brought together representatives from AU Member States to build technical capacity in applying AI tools and digital innovations for more effective tracking of development progress.
Delegates engaged in hands-on training with emerging AI platforms, including Ailyse, ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Google Gemini, and Perplexity, exploring their potential to improve data analysis, enhance decision-making, and support evidence-based policy-making in line with Agenda 2063 priorities.
AfDB Lead Programme Co-ordinator Abibu Tamu highlighted the transformative potential of AI, stating: “These tools are not only revolutionising how data is collected, analysed, and reported, they are also enabling more targeted policy interventions and efficient resource allocation.”
The workshop also served as a platform for peer learning, with participating countries exchanging best practices and innovative approaches in national development planning and results-based reporting.
The AfDB’s support underscores its wider commitment to promoting digital transformation, innovation, and results-based accountability within the African Union framework, ensuring that technological advancements drive sustainable and inclusive growth across the continent.
