Zambia, Botswana Deepen Ties During President Boko’s State Visit

President Hakainde Hichilema has warmly welcomed President Duma Gideon Boko of the Republic of Botswana to Zambia on a State visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and deepening regional cooperation.

The visit marks a significant milestone in Zambia–Botswana relations, as the two Heads of State prepare to co-chair the inaugural Zambia–Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC) and jointly attend the official opening of the Zambia Agriculture and Commercial Show, where President Boko will serve as Guest of Honour.

In a statement, President Hichilema emphasized the longstanding friendship between the two Southern African nations, underscoring a shared history of mutual respect, regional cooperation, and a vision for sustainable development.

“Our two countries are bound not only by shared borders, language, and culture, but also by common values and aspirations,” said President Hichilema. “We are committed to leveraging this partnership to drive inclusive economic growth through enhanced trade, investment, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges.”

The Bi-National Commission, which replaces the previous Joint Permanent Commission, is expected to focus on priority sectors such as agriculture, energy, transport, and tourism, with the goal of unlocking regional potential and improving the lives of citizens in both countries.

President Hichilema reiterated Zambia’s dedication to regional integration and peaceful development, noting that the two nations will continue to pursue collaborative efforts to foster prosperity not only within their borders, but across Southern Africa and beyond.
