Mutati Applauds ZRA’s Digital Drive as Game-Changer for Tax and Trade
Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati, has hailed the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) for embracing digital transformation in its operations, saying the move is enhancing tax compliance, facilitating trade, and improving citizen engagement.
Speaking during the ongoing Invest-Zambia International Conference (IZIC) in Lusaka, Mr. Mutati noted that digital technology plays a critical role in building efficient public systems and fostering investor confidence. He praised ZRA’s efforts as a benchmark in modern governance.
Meanwhile, ZRA Commissioner General Dingani Banda announced that the authority is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and National Planning and the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) to streamline and automate the tax incentive process for both local and international investors.
“To improve efficiency and coordination in the implementation and monitoring of tax incentives, ZRA, ZDA, and the Ministry of Finance are in discussion to automate the tax incentives process in Zambia,” said Mr. Banda.
He further highlighted that the government has reduced income tax rates for priority sectors such as agro-processing, fertilizer production, and farming to 10% and 15% respectively, significantly lower than the standard 30% corporate tax rate. The measure aims to boost economic growth, industrialization, and diversification.
Mr. Banda shared these updates during a panel discussion at the high-level IZIC event, which brings together investors, policymakers, and development partners to explore opportunities for sustainable investment in Zambia.
