NHIMA, Ecobank Launch Digital Health Payments

Ecobank Zambia and the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) have partnered to launch a digital payment platform aimed at simplifying contributions to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The initiative marks a major step toward universal health coverage and greater financial inclusion in Zambia.

The platform, unveiled in Lusaka, allows both employers and individuals to make their NHIS payments through Ecobank’s Omni Plus platform, as well as at any Ecobank branch or agency outlet. This collaboration is expected to simplify and secure the contribution process while expanding access to healthcare financing services.

“This partnership is a reaffirmation of our commitment to serve every Zambian citizen and resident,” said NHIMA Director General, Mr. Michael Njapau. He emphasized that the innovation aligns with NHIMA’s 2023–2026 Strategic Plan, which aims to simplify payment processes for scheme members.

Key benefits of the new system include streamlined payment submission, increased compliance, secure and transparent transactions, and broader accessibility through digital and physical banking infrastructure.

Ecobank Zambia Managing Director, Ms. L. Aina Moore, hailed the collaboration as a major step forward for inclusive healthcare: “This launch is about progress and inclusion—ensuring every Zambian can fulfill their healthcare obligations without hassle.”
