Algeria to Host Shelter Afrique Development Bank’s 44th AGM in July 2025

Algeria will play host to the Shelter Afrique Development Bank’s (ShafDB) 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Housing Symposium from July 15th to 17th, 2025, at the prestigious Hotel El Aurassi in Algiers.

The high-level event is set to bring together key stakeholders, policymakers, investors, and development finance leaders to discuss strategies for advancing affordable housing and sustainable urban development across Africa.

Themed “Housing Sector Financial Sustainability Amid Global Turbulence: Opportunities and Challenges,” the AGM will convene ministers of housing and finance from member states, shareholders, central banks, mayors, private developers, investors, and development finance partners. They will explore ways to transform urban Africa’s potential into tangible, inclusive progress.

Shelter Afrique’s Managing Director and CEO, Thierno-Habib Hann, expressed excitement about Algeria hosting the AGM. “We appreciate our member countries for their continued commitment to affordable housing and urban development across Africa.

Algeria’s significant role in Shelter Afrique’s transformation into a Development Bank in 2023 and now hosting the 44th AGM reflects the collective momentum and shared vision of our members,” said Mr. Hann.

Key topics at the AGM will include capital mobilization, innovative financing mechanisms, and public-private partnerships to accelerate housing delivery. Ministerial roundtables, high-level policy dialogues, plenary sessions, technical forums, and investment showcases will be integral parts of the event, designed to foster collaboration and action on Africa’s growing housing needs.

As Africa faces a growing demand for affordable housing, Shelter Afrique Development Bank remains committed to advancing urban resilience, economic empowerment, and inclusive growth. The discussions held during the 44th AGM in Algiers are expected to yield critical resolutions shaping the future of Africa’s housing and infrastructure development.

Shelter Afrique Development Bank, founded in 1981 in Lusaka, Zambia, is a Pan-African Multilateral Development Bank dedicated to promoting sustainable green housing and urban development across the continent.

The bank is owned by 44 African governments and two institutional shareholders, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa-Re).

The upcoming AGM promises to be a crucial moment in shaping the future of housing and urban development in Africa, reinforcing Shelter Afrique’s role in fostering economic growth and infrastructure development across the continent.
