Zambia and DRC to Resolve Border Closure in Lubumbashi Meeting
The Zambian government, in a press briefing held at the Kasumbalesa border, has assured the public that the temporary closure of the three borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is not politically motivated.
The closure was prompted by ongoing protests in the DRC, and the move is aimed at ensuring the safety of people and property.
The Minister of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, along with Copperbelt Province Minister Hon. Elisha Matambo and officials from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), addressed concerns surrounding the border closures.
They emphasized that the situation is under control, and there is no need for alarm.
Today, representatives from both Zambia and the DRC will meet in Lubumbashi, DRC, to discuss the issue and seek a peaceful resolution.
Hon. Mulenga highlighted that the DRC’s Minister of Trade had already reached out to him to find a way forward, ensuring the safety of citizens on both sides of the border.
Hon. Matambo also reassured investors and businesses, stating that the Copperbelt remains safe and stable despite the border closures.
He urged everyone to remain calm, as the situation in Kasumbalesa is peaceful.
