CEJ Hails UNDEF for Bolstering Climate Advocacy in Zambia
The Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) has lauded the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) for its instrumental role in empowering civil society organizations (CSOs) to champion environmental justice in Zambia.
Speaking at the launch of a Technical Working Group (TWG) in Chongwe, CEJ Executive Director Maggie Mwape expressed sincere gratitude to UNDEF for their unwavering support and belief in the organization’s mission.
She underscored the significance of fostering a long-lasting partnership with the United Nations to drive sustainable environmental progress.
Mwape emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to address the pressing challenges posed by climate change. She called for a unified front to champion climate justice and advance the environmental agenda.
The TWG, established under the “Strengthening Civil Society Voices for Climate Advocacy in Zambia” project, marks a crucial step forward in enhancing Zambia’s resilience to climate change.
Funded by UNDEF and implemented by CEJ, the initiative seeks to equip CSOs with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively advocate for climate action and environmental sustainability.
Through comprehensive training, stakeholder consultations, and capacity building, the project aims to strengthen CSOs’ involvement in National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) implementation.
ZCCN Acting National Coordinator Lidya Chibambo commended CEJ’s dedication to environmental protection and underscored the critical need for increased civil society participation in addressing climate change.
