Govt Connects 95 Post Offices with Starlink Country-wide
The Zambian government has successfully connected 95 post offices across the country with Starlink kits, offering free internet access to residents and enabling them to access over 300 government services online.
Led by Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati, the initiative has transformed post offices into Digital Transformation Centers.
Minister Mutati highlighted the project’s aim to support small and medium entrepreneurs, as well as residents, by providing free internet at post offices nationwide to enhance their daily activities.
During a tour of Nakonde Post Office in Muchinga Province, Mutati announced the government’s target to connect a total of 106 post offices under the Digital Transformation Centers project.
With this new setup, citizens can renew their insurance, pay for road tax, and access programs such as the Farmer Input Support Program and Social Cash Transfer without traveling to provincial centers.
The minister confirmed that all post offices in Muchinga Province are now equipped with Starlink.
For the first year, the government will offer free internet access at these post offices, with a plan to charge for the service thereafter.
Harrison Wungululu, Zampost Area Manager for Muchinga Province, reported that the Starlink kits are functioning well in Nakonde and other locations.
He encouraged small and medium entrepreneurs and residents to utilize the free internet for community-beneficial work.
