KCM Equips Women in Mining with Financial Independence and Leadership Skills

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) on Friday, 15 May 2026, launched the Women in Mining Financial Wealth Architecture Workshop, a programme aimed at strengthening financial literacy, leadership capacity and business decision-making among women in the mining sector.

The initiative forms part of KCM’s broader diversity and inclusion agenda, focused on empowering women in both technical and leadership roles while enhancing their personal financial management and strategic thinking skills.

Opening the workshop, KCM Group Chief Executive Officer Deshnee Naidoo urged women in mining to take up leadership opportunities with confidence, stating that they have “earned their rightful place at the table” in shaping the future of the industry.

She emphasised that the company’s success depends not only on its mineral resources but also on the people driving transformation, particularly women.

Naidoo further highlighted that diverse and inclusive workplaces consistently deliver stronger performance due to wider perspectives, innovation and improved decision-making.

She also encouraged participants to prioritise continuous learning, describing education as a key tool for overcoming barriers and unlocking leadership potential.

KCM Vice President for Human Capital and Management, Prudence Chisakuta, encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop and extend its impact through mentoring colleagues.

She noted that the initiative builds on existing mentorship and development programmes aimed at increasing women’s participation in leadership and technical roles within the company.

The workshop also featured a health and wellness session led by Dr Kapembwa, who cautioned against self-medication and the misuse of antibiotics and painkillers.

She warned that such practices can result in serious health complications, including organ damage and drug resistance, stressing that personal wellbeing is essential to long-term financial and professional success.
