Gov’t and Cooperating Partners Discuss World Bank’s Poverty and Equity Assessment Report

The Zambian government, in collaboration with Cooperating Partners, has convened a strategic meeting to deliberate on effective poverty reduction measures in response to the latest findings from the World Bank’s Poverty and Equity Assessment Report.

The high-level meeting was officially opened by Acting Secretary to the Treasury, Ms. Nsandi Manza, who emphasized the critical role of Cooperating Partners in supporting Zambia’s socio-economic development goals.

She reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a private sector-led economy to create jobs, drive economic growth, and ensure sustainable development.

Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, presented Zambia’s progress in implementing social protection programs. 

She highlighted the government’s political will in developing policies such as the 2025 National Social Protection Policy and the 2025 National Disability Policy, aimed at ensuring inclusive social protection services.

World Bank representative, Mr. Akim Fock, commended Zambia’s efforts in establishing a resilient social protection system, which has been instrumental in shielding vulnerable populations from economic shocks. 

He reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s development agenda.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Presidential Delivery Unit Zambia, the European Union in Zambia, the World Bank, and the UK in Zambia, underscoring a collective effort toward achieving equitable and sustainable poverty reduction strategies.
