Finance Minister Musokotwane Leads Zambian Delegation to 2025 African Mining Indaba

Zambia’s Minister of Finance and National Planning, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, has arrived in South Africa ahead of this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba, scheduled to take place from February 3 to 6, 2025, at the International Convention Centre (CTICC) in Cape Town.

Dr. Musokotwane will represent President Hakainde Hichilema at the high-profile event, which is being held under the theme “Future-proofing African Mining, Today.” The summit focuses on sustainability and economic growth within Africa’s mining sector.

Accompanying Dr. Musokotwane is Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe, Mines Permanent Secretary Dr. Hapenga Kabeta, Minister of Transport and Logistics Hon. Frank Tayali, senior government officials, and representatives from Zambia’s private sector.

The delegation was welcomed by Zambia’s Acting High Commissioner to South Africa, Ms. Inonge Mwenya. While in Cape Town, Dr. Musokotwane is set to engage in bilateral and sideline meetings with potential investors and key industry stakeholders to promote Zambia’s mining sector and economic agenda.

The 2025 Mining Indaba will bring together over 8,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, including 1,200 investors and 700 mining companies. More than 25 government ministers are also expected to participate in the Ministerial Symposium.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on Monday, February 3.

For Zambia, the Indaba presents a crucial opportunity to showcase its ambitious plans to increase copper production to 3 million tonnes annually by 2032, a significant jump from the current output of approximately 800,000 tonnes.

The African Mining Indaba remains a premier platform for investment discussions, networking, and policy deliberations aimed at fostering sustainable mining practices and unlocking Africa’s vast mineral potential.
