TFL donates bicycles, patrol kits to Kamikolo CFMG
The Trident Foundation Limited (TFL) has handed over essential resources to the Kamikolo Community Forest Management Group (CFMG).
This initiative, part of the “GEF7 – Ecosystem Conservation and Community Livelihood Enhancement Project,” aims to fortify sustainable forest management while enhancing livelihoods for rural communities.
TFL’s donation includes 24 bicycles and 20 patrol kits, comprising uniforms, camping tents, sleeping mats, bags, and other field gear.
These provisions will empower the Kamikolo community’s forest officers to safeguard and preserve the area’s 40,000 hectares of forest under the stewardship of Chief Mukumbi.
The bicycles and patrol kits are vital tools for monitoring and protecting forest resources, ensuring their sustainable utilization for community benefits.
Moreover, 18 members of the Kamikolo CFMG were recognized for their dedication, having successfully completed training in Enterprise Development.
This training equips them with essential skills in business and financial management, crucial for fostering sustainable enterprises within the community.
Through strategic planning and implementation, the CFMG aims to capitalize on five key value chains: honey, mushroom, chikanda (wild orchid), herbal medicines, and carbon trading.
Ms. Brenda Sankisa, Kalumbila District Commissioner, lauded the Kamikolo community’s proactive stance in combating global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss.
She emphasized the significance of embracing livelihood opportunities stemming from the sustainable utilization of non-wood forest products.
The training and equipment provided by TFL signify a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including the Government of the Republic of Zambia, the Global Environment Facility (GEF)/United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), and The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
