Long-Standing Zambia-India Cooperation Bolsters Skills and Education Training
The Ministry of Technology and Science, represented by Minister Felix Mutati, has lauded the enduring partnership between Zambia and India, which spans over six decades.
This longstanding cooperation, marked by mutual support and collaboration, has seen significant growth across various sectors. Minister Mutati expressed his appreciation during the commemoration of the Indian Technical Education and Cooperation (ITEC) day.
The ITEC program, a cornerstone of this bilateral relationship, has secured a remarkable achievement by offering 170 training slots for civilians and 84 slots for the defense forces.
This initiative is poised to enhance the professionalism and skills of Zambian trainees, contributing substantially to the nation’s development agenda.
Minister Mutati underscored the importance of cooperation in ITEC, citing India’s global leadership in partnership, professional development, skills training, and education.
He emphasized that ITEC was instrumental in breaking barriers to access training, providing invaluable opportunities for skills development and education enhancement.
India’s unwavering support towards Zambia’s agriculture, health, infrastructure, and debt restructuring initiatives was also acknowledged by the Minister.
He urged aspiring local students to seize the available ITEC training opportunities, recognizing the transformative impact it could have on their careers and the nation’s progress.
Indian High Commissioner to Zambia, His Excellency Ashok Kumar, reiterated the significance of the longstanding diplomatic relations between India and Zambia.
He highlighted India’s pivotal role in recognizing Zambia’s independence in 1964, marking a historic milestone in their bilateral ties.
In 2023 alone, bilateral relations between the two nations saw economic collaborations amounting to a budget of six hundred million dollars, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting Zambia’s diverse economic sectors.
His Excellency Kumar announced the availability of ITEC programs, which encompass a wide array of disciplines including agriculture, micro and small-scale enterprise, information technology, and public finance management. These programs will be conducted in Indian higher learning institutions, offering participants invaluable expertise and knowledge.
