Zambia Arts Promoters Meet with Tax Authority to Discuss Compliance and Industry Growth
The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, Permanent Secretary Fumba Chama, recently officiated at a breakfast meeting between the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and Arts Promoters.
The meeting, held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, aimed to improve tax compliance within the arts sector and explore avenues for industry growth.
The event included a workshop educating artists from various categories on tax compliance.
Mr. Chama emphasized the importance of transforming the arts sector from a leisure activity into a driver of job creation, economic stimulation, and local business promotion.
He urged arts promoters to view tax remittance not as a burden but as a strategic measure to quantify the arts sector’s contribution to national development.
Mr. Chama further called for continued collaboration between ZRA and the National Arts Council to develop initiatives that expand the tax base within the arts community while keeping them informed of their tax obligations.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by the current tax regime on the arts sector, Mr. Chama assured promoters that the Ministry is aware of these issues and is working with the National Arts Council and ZRA to find amicable solutions.
The ZRA used the meeting to highlight the importance of tax compliance and announce that the use of Smart Invoices for applicable taxes will soon become mandatory.
