EU Ambassador Engages with Zambian Minister on SME Development
Karolina Stasiak, the Ambassador of the European Union to Zambia and Special Representative to COMESA, held a productive meeting with Hon. Elias Mubanga, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development in Lusaka on 16th April.
During the discussion, Hon. Mubanga conveyed appreciation for the EU’s support in Zambia’s debt restructuring and initiatives benefiting small-scale businesses.
Highlighting the significant role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in job creation and GDP contribution, Mubanga emphasized the importance of collaboration with the EU for skills development, particularly in artisanal mining and other sectors.
In response, Ambassador Stasiak affirmed the EU’s commitment to enhancing Zambian SMEs’ skills and productivity.
She outlined ongoing EU programs in agriculture mechanization, afforestation, and biodiversity aimed at improving conditions for smallholder farmers.
Stasiak expressed interest in facilitating access to financing, skills acquisition, and legal compliance for Zambian SMEs, emphasizing areas like agriculture mechanization and market access to promote a green economy.
Stasiak pledged support for the Ministry’s efforts to foster a conducive business environment for SMEs in Zambia, signaling a promising partnership between the EU and Zambia in advancing SME development and sustainability.
