Gov’t Calls for Partnership in ICT Sector at 2nd Huawei Mobile Mini Congress
The Zambian government has reiterated its commitment to fostering partnerships with the private sector to propel the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry forward.
Speaking at the 2nd Huawei Mobile Mini Congress in Lusaka, Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati, highlighted the pivotal role of technology in national economic development.
Mutati emphasized the necessity of robust collaborations to accelerate the growth of Zambia’s ICT industry, urging more stakeholders to join efforts in this endeavor.
He praised Huawei as a key partner in this journey, citing the establishment of the Digital Talent Development Programme funded under the Hakainde Hichilema Innovation Fund as a testament to their collaboration.
Acknowledging the importance of supportive policies, Mutati underscored the significance of frameworks like the ICT Policy and The Digital Transformation Agenda in fostering a conducive environment for ICT sector growth.
In response, Samuel Chen, Huawei’s President for Carrier Business in the Southern Africa Region, assured the government of strengthened collaborations to expedite projects in various sectors such as energy solutions, smart education, and rural connectivity.
Chen highlighted Zambia’s potential in solar solutions to mitigate energy challenges, affirming Huawei’s commitment to making strategic investments in cost-effective energy solutions and extending connectivity to rural areas.
Through the congress, Zambia is being introduced to tailored solutions and products addressing its specific needs, making it more competitive in the global ICT industry, Chen added.
He commended the government’s commitment to building a digital economy and supporting connectivity projects.
The Mini Mobile Congress, an offshoot of the Mobile World Congress, convenes industry leaders to discuss evolving technology trends and insights. This year’s event marks the second iteration in Zambia, focusing on accelerating the country’s ICT advancement under the theme “Accelerating Zambia’s ICT industry and advancing the intelligent World.”
