Hichilema Embarks on Crucial Visit to Botswana

President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia is set to embark on a two-day Working Visit to Kasane, Botswana, starting from January 24th. 

The visit comes at the invitation of His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, highlighting the enduring ties between the two nations.

Central to the visit are bilateral talks between President Hichilema and President Masisi, with a significant outcome anticipated in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding on Immigration and Technical Cooperation. 

This agreement is poised to deepen cooperation and coordination between Zambia and Botswana in critical areas, fostering mutual growth and development.

One of the key highlights of the visit includes a joint tour of the Kazungula Bridge, a vital infrastructure linking the two nations over the Zambezi and Chobe rivers. 

The Kazungula Bridge plays a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless movement of goods and services, contributing significantly to the greater integration of the southern African region.

Botswana holds strategic importance for Zambia, with shared values and a history of robust bilateral relations. The upcoming talks are expected to further solidify these ties and explore new avenues for collaboration. 

President Hichilema has expressed his unwavering commitment to unlocking untapped opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism, not only with Botswana but also with other neighboring nations.

The visit aligns with President Hichilema’s broader vision of making bilateral trade, economic, and technical cooperation a cornerstone of Zambia’s foreign policy.
